Join the ECEYT Peer Mentorship Initiative
As an Early Childhood Educator in Yukon, you play a vital role in shaping the minds and hearts of young children. Many of us give a lot every day, and we believe that you deserve strong support system for your professional growth and well-being that gives back to you. That's why we're excited to introduce the ECEYT Peer Mentorship Initiative, designed to support ECEs like you.
This program centres around belonging, collaboration, and collective wisdom. You'll be carefully paired with a peer mentor, engaging in weekly conversations, building trust, and support. In this relationship you and your peer are equals, growing together and learning from one another. You'll both also have opportunities to connect with the rest of the program participants in facilitator guided Communities of Practice. We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to share your experiences and insights. The topics and outcomes of this project will be guided by the community, based on individual and collective interests.
This project draws inspiration from the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia's (ECEBC) Peer Mentoring Program, which has demonstrated huge benefits for ECEs. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Who can participate in the Peer Mentorship Initiative? Early Childhood Educators across Yukon, including those in rural communities, family day homes, and ECEs in training. The pilot project will have up to 12 participants, forming 6 pairs of ECEs.
- What do I need to do to sign up? Simply send us an email ([email protected]) or use the from below to tell us that you are interested in joining the project. There are no conditions or qualifications needed other than a willingness to learn and an openness to share.
- Can I participate if I don't live in Whitehorse? Yes, participants from rural Yukon are welcome. Your voice and perspective will enrich the project.
- Can I participate if my first language is French? Yes, we will try our best to match you with a peer who speaks French. The Community of Practice gatherings will primarily be in English.
- What is the time commitment for the project? The initiative runs for 6 months, from August 2026 to January 2027. The estimated time commitment is approximately 6 hours per month, which includes: In-person Community of Practice (CoP) gatherings, weekly peer connections, evaluation and documentation.
- How do I connect with my peer mentor? Once we paired you with your peer mentor, meetings and communication is up to you. It allows for flexibility and arrangements that works best for both of you. From weekly coffee dates to voice messages anything is possible.
- Do our conversations get recorded? No. Conversations between you and your peer mentor as well as in the Community of Practice are confidential and will not get recorded in any way. There will be interviews before and after the project for evaluation purposes that we would like to record with your permission.
- What support is available for participants? Participants will receive an $850 honorarium for their involvement. We also have a small fund available to assist with expenses such as bus tickets or childcare during CoP gatherings and capacity to invite guest speakers.
- I'm interested but I might not be able to commit to the full 6-month project. What options do I have? We understand that commitments can be challenging. We can discuss flexibility options. Please email us ([email protected]) to explore possibilities.
